Voice Recognition for MacIntosh
Unfortunately, voice recognition is not as well developed for MacIntosh, as it is for PC's. The quality of recognition, control of the computer and ability to create commands, trails the quality of the PC programs.
There are three available programs for the Mac, (plus one other option shown below), and we carry all of them.
IBM Via Voice for Mac
Via Voice is the worst choice. IBM stopped their development of the program years ago. They have no plans to upgrade it for the future. This is a dead program, that was not very good when it was being supported. Despite that, IBM still offers it for sale, but it obviously is not a good choice.
iListen for Mac
iListen is a better choice for older Mac's. iListen provides you with the simplest and easiest way to get text into the applications. Simply dictate into anywhere you would type. This "TalkAnywhere" technology, allows you to dictate and correct directly within almost any application on your Mac.
The bad news is the accuracy, which is about 85%. That is not very good, when you compare it to the NaturallySpeaking accuracy rate of 99%.
MacSpeech Dictate
MacSpeech Dictate is the newest speech recognition product for the Macintosh. They pulled the Dragon NaturallySpeaking engine, right into the Mac. MacSpeech Dictate delivers a truly Mac user experience, and conforms to behaviors already familiar to Macintosh fans worldwide. Beyond dictation, MacSpeech Dictate lets you perform basic navigation of the Mac and control it by voice to launch applications, open new windows, execute menu commands, etc.
MacSpeech Dictate requires Intel-based Macintosh hardware and requires Mac OS X 10.4.11 or higher, including Mac OS X 10.5. MacSpeech Dictate is currently available in English
NaturallySpeaking on the Intel Mac
A solution that many Mac users have been using, is to run Windows on an Intel Mac, and load on that portion, Dragon NaturallySpeaking. That provides the full latest version of NaturallySpeaking, with all its features, on the Mac. Our customers have been provided with excellent performance, and recognition using this method.
