More Accurate
Medical 10 is now 20% more accurate than version 9.  The new version 10 Medical is up to 33% more accurate than non-medical versions of Dragon.  We have been testing this new version, and the increase in accuracy is simply amazing.

Your transcribed dictation appears faster
The engineers have completely reworked the system, so your words appear on the screen and your commands are carried out in half the time of previous versions.  That makes it much easier to edit your transcription as you dictate, and increases your productivity.

Quick Voice Formatting
In this new Medical version 10, Dragon has added enhanced voice formatting that allows you to format text as you go.  For example, you could say “bold this is important” to bold “this is important”.  Or say, "Bold <text> through <text>", (or Bold <text> to <text>)  to select a section of text and format it at the same time.  There are similar commands for quickly, underlining, italicizing, copying, cutting, and deleting text within a single spoken voice command.

New Hidden Mode Dictation

An important new feature, “Hidden Mode”, allows you to dictate while viewing information on your computer such as Lab Tests, Patient History, Current Medications or information from the internet.   Continue to dictate as you view source materials, and your finished transcription will be held in a hidden window.  When you finish, place your cursor where you want the text to be written, and say “transfer text”.

This feature is only available in the Full Medical 10 version, and is not available in the Small Office version.

Medical 10 now adjusts to how you want your work transcribed

The following are 5 new formatting menus, that allow you to select exactly how you want your dictation transcribed.

Abbreviations Menu

Within the new abbreviation menu, the beginning of listing shown here, allows you to select which preset abbreviations will be activated, to allow you to dictate the abbreviation, and have the full phrase transcribed.

By checking off which abbreviations you wish to be expanded, you will have the choice as you are dictating of either saying the acronym, or saying the full phrase.

Capitalization Menu

This formatting menu, contains multiple words, which you can define how they will be transcribed.

One option on this menu allows you to control how the "New Line" command operates. With previous versions, the new line command would drop down one line, but the next thing you said would be transcribed in lower case. This new option allows you to set if you want the word on the next line upper or lower case.

General Formatting Menu

This new menu, allows you to set the general formats of your transcription. Most of these commands were available in NaturallySpeaking Medical 9, but there are some important additions.

One of the hardest things to get used to in dictating was the requirement that you had to say "numeral" before you dictated a single digit, (numeral three). In Medical 10, you can set specifically how you want to dictate numbers.

Some EMR's and Hospital standard formatting rules, require that you insert just one space after dictating a period. Overall, that saves record space. With Medical version 10, you can now set the system to either type one or two spaces after the period, as you require.

Another annoyance that has been solved with Medical 10, is the ability to set if you can pause while saying certain phrases. With NaturallySpeaking Medical 9, if you dictated "two hundred dollars" then paused, and then said "and fifty cents, you would get, $200 $.50. Now with Medical 10, you can set the system to let you dictate in a more natural manner, without these types of recognition mistakes.

Miscellaneous Formatting Menu

This new menu adds further features for to allow you to dictate more naturally.

Many people are used to dictating either "Paragraph" or "New Paragraph". Dragon required you to change if you were used to dictating "Paragraph", because it would only type the word "Paragraph", and not follow your wishes.

In Medical 10, you can set it either way or both.

There are several other selections, that help tune the Medical 10 system to your way of dictating.

Number Units and Dates Menu

This menu allows you to fine tune how these aspects are formatted.

Especially the new date function, allows you to dictate dates in a normal fashion.

You can now dictate, "oh five oh six oh eight" or "zero five slash zero six slash zero eight" and both ways have the date formatted properly.

As you can see, there are many other rules you can set, to define how your dictation is transcribed.

The newly designed text and graphics Menu

The new "variable" button, allows you to create commands including variables within set standard phrases.

Once you give the command to transcribe this section of text, you say "next field" to highlight the next brackets set. You then just dictate over the highlighted brackets.

As shown, suggested filler text can be placed within the brackets, to allow you to quickly position the cursor, and remind you of the suggested response for that entry.

You can have as many of these commands as you need, each containing as many variables as needed.

This variable feature is only available in the Full Medical version.
