Speech Recognition for Macintosh

Several companies tried to create voice recognition systems for the Mac. The best of the group first developed their own speech engine.  Then they licensed the Dragon NaturallySpeaking program, and ported it over to their products that work on Mac. Their integration and product quality were so great, that Dragon recently bought the Company.  So now, these products are  backed and supported by Dragon.

Dictate for the Mac : This program includes the Dragon voice recognition engine, and works with Mac Microsoft Word, Adobe Photoshop, QuarkXPress, and more. Works great with Apple’s applications as well, including iChat, Mail, iPhoto, and Keynote, among others.  It was built from the ground up to ensure the ultimate experience on Mac OS X. $194

Dictate Medical for the Mac:  This includes the full Dragon Medical engine including all of the Medical Vocabulary Specialties that are in the PC version.  Not only does it contain the medical terms, it also acts like a word predictor, (as does the PC version), knowing which words you would normally say before and after each other word.  This automatic correction feature, makes Dragon Medical for the Mac far more accurate than just adding medical terms to the non medical version. MacSpeech Dictate Medical works great with most text documents, even those not created by voice.
It Works With The Mac Apps You Already Have, Word processors, MacPractice MD, DDS and 20/20, email apps, and more. MacSpeech Dictate Medical works great with Apple’s applications, including iChat, Mail, Keynote and Safari, among others. $575

Digital Recorder software for the Mac:  This is an add on software package, that allows you to use a digital recorder to remotely dictate your notes, and directly transcribe them into your Mac. It sets up very easily in just minutes, then provides you with very accurate results. This is not a standalone product.  It must be used along with either the Dragon for the Mac, or the Dragon Medical for the Mac. $145
